The influence of smog on outdoor LED display

With the rapid development of economy, the air is polluted and is not refresh as before. Now it is not unusual to see the gray sky in the morning. Why is the sky gray? It is a kind of thing called smog. Its main constituents are formed by the mixture of sulphur dioxide, nitrogen oxides and repairable particulate matter. The first two are gaseous pollutants. They combine with fog to make the sky hazed. In fact, fog is a natural phenomenon, non-toxic and harmless. The formation of haze is mainly the result of the interaction of a large number of particles suspended in the air and meteorological conditions.

In fact, we can distinguish smog from fog and haze because the main harm to the display is different:

1. The harm of fog to the outdoor LED display.

The fog is formed by the condensation of water vapor in the air. That is to say, the humidity in the air is relatively large in the smog weather. Excessive humidity causes the PCB board, power supply, power line and other components of the LED display to be easily oxidized, corroded, or even short-circuited, thus causing malfunction.

2. The harm of haze to the outdoor LED display.

Haze is a collection of dust, various fine particles, etc., suspended in the air. If the LED screen is affected by haze for a long time, all kinds of tiny dust in the air will enter the equipment through the vent hole, and the equipment such as the fan will be accelerated to wear and even damage. The dust will fall on the surface of the internal control device of the LED display screen, which not only reduces the performance of LED display in heat dissipation and insulation, also accelerate the aging of the display and affect the normal service life.

So, how can people protect the LED display from smog weather for a long time? 

For one thing, when buying screen, whether the LED screen display meets the dust-proof level required by the environment is vital. In terms of dust prevention, the international standard is IP0X-IP6X, which is a design level to prevent foreign matter intrusion. If installed in the environment with more dust and haze, its front and back protection levels must reach IP65. It is necessary to adopt a completely dust-proof structure, if not a completely dust-proof structure, removing dust regularly is of great significance in the daily maintenance process.

For another, LED display PCB board should do the measures of anti-corrosion, such as conformal coating; the power supply and power cord should use high-quality accessories; the frame is easy to rust, it is best to do anti-rust process.


In sum, the toxins in the smog not only endanger people's health seriously, but also have a terrible influence on the operation of outdoor LED displays. Both users and engineers should do the protection of LED screen from smog weather, most importantly, it is better for all human to protect our environment to avoid smog weather, take actions now !
